Goa's solar astronomy events to celebrate Aditya L1 Mission

As ISRO is all set to launch the prestigious Aditya L1, India's first solar probe and observatory satellite, the Association of Friends of Astronomy (Goa) has geared up to publicise the event and spread awareness of the science behind the project and its studies.

Various programmes will be held to enlighten the public on the endeavour. 

The programmes will start on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 9 pm at Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, where solar observation, a solar science workshop and live streaming of the mission launch on a large screen will be held.

On Saturday evening, solar observation and a unique solar walk will take place on Colva Beach from 4 pm onwards to understand the dynamics of the solar system on a nano-scale. While in Panjim, on the same day, there will be a special programme on the Aditya mission at the Public Astronomical Observatory at Junta House at 7 pm.

Sunday morning (10 am), live solar observation take place at the Panjim Church Square, and observers will glimpse the solar disk live through protective telescope filters.

On September 4, Monday, a programme on the mission highlights will be held online, and the link will be available free on the AFA (Goa) website.

On Tuesday, September 5, a programme on solar science will be held at 7 pm at Porvorim at the Vidya Prabhodini High School (LD Samant).

A solar science workshop to be conducted at Saraswat College promises to be educational. This workshop will take place at 7 pm, on September 7.

All these programmes are free and open to the general public. Goan students, in particular, are encouraged to participate in large numbers.
