 ABOUT THE FILM

Described by top Hollywood producer Martin Scorsese as a ‘master filmmaker’, Theo Angelopoulos, dominated the Greek art film industry from 1975.

He directed around 15 films during his career, of which Eternity and a Day won him the top award at the Cannes Film Festival and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in 1988, and is his best known film.

Eternity and a Day is about life, death, regret and memories. In the movie, Bruno Ganz (who played the role of Hitler in Downfall) plays a middle-aged writer, Alexandros, who learns that he has a terminal illness, and realises he doesn’t have much time left on earth.

While spending his days reflecting on his past, and attempting to finish the works of a 19th-century poet, he comes across a boy who is an illegal immigrant. A good part of the film surrounds their bonding.

A touching drama, worth watching.
