All 37 candidates of the Congress party for the upcoming Goa Assembly polls on Wednesday took a pledge of loyalty that they will not defect during the five-year term after being elected on Congress ticket not will they contest election on another party symbol by resigning from the party during their term.
The affidavits signed by the candidates were submitted to Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi and will also be presented to Congress National President Sonia Gandhi.
Congress alliance partner Goa Forward Party, who is fighting on three seats, also took the pledge of loyalty to remain with the Congress party after elections.
Congress Goa Elections in-charge P Chidambaram, Desk in charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, general secretary KC Venugopal and South Goa MP Sardinha Francisco was also present on the occasion.
Congress candidates had earlier taken a pledge in front of the temple, mosque and church.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi conducted a door-to-door campaign at Sada, Mormugao.
The Congress leader will also interact with representatives of the Tourism Sector, Anganwadi staff and others.
Rahul Gandhi was earlier scheduled to visit on February 2, but his visit was deferred because of parliament and his visit to Raipur for the launch of a memorial for martyrs.
Goa will vote on February 14. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
