Goa will require minimum 900 MW power per day by 2030

Goa will need a minimum of 900 to 1000 megawatts (MW) of power per day by the year 2030. The new international airport at Mopa, which has been completed, will need almost 100 MW power per day once the mega infrastructure of the area is developed, claimed Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

The day-to-day power consumption of people in Goa has been increasing. The domestic usage of power to run electric appliances and for other purposes has created an increase in the demand for power

Minister Dhavalikar informed Gomantak Times that presently Goa is using around 650 MW of power per day, which is brought from the North and South sectors. Once the new Mopa airport becomes fully functional, the peripheral area of this airport will develop in terms of infrastructure such mega projects like hotels, parks, etc will come up.

These establishments will require a power supply, and to cater to this demand, the Mopa airport area will require 100 MW of power per day in the near future, said Dhavalikar.

When asked how the government was planning to generate additional power, the minister said, “Additional 250 MW of power will be generated by using renewable energy sources such as solar power. If the additional need arises, then we may purchase the power from the market,” Dhavalikar added.
