Goa Revolution Day: Don't miss this exhibition on Goa’s freedom struggle

Records of Goa’s freedom struggle, found at the Tribunal Militar Territorial (TMT), will be on display at the Archives Week Exhibition 2022, hosted by the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology, starting from June 18, 2022 to June 20, 2022 at the Art Gallery, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto-Panjim.

Speaking to GT, Assistant superintending archeologist at the directorate of archives and archeology, Goa, Varad Sabnis, said, “This exhibition is about Goa’s freedom struggle. During the Portuguese period, when the liberation struggle was at its peak, several freedom fighters were jailed and taken into custody and were charged with various cases. Their cases were trialed under the military tribunal, and all those records and confiscated documents, used by the freedom fighters will be exhibited.”

Among the confiscated documents are speeches or pamphlets that contained Gandhian philosophy or messages by national leaders, “You can find messages by Gandhiji, poems written by Gajanan Raikar, BB Borkar among the exhibits. ” he added.

The events

This special exhibition on Archival Records, related to Goa’s freedom struggle, will be inaugurated at the hands of Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant at 10 am in the presence of the Minister for Archives and Archaeology, Subhash Phal Dessai and Minister for Revenue, Waste Management and Labour, Atanasio Monserrate

For the people of Goa, Revolutionary Day, June 18, is a reminder of the freedom struggle and the fight for their rights. Therefore, apart from the exhibition, there will be an all Goa inter-higher secondary Quiz Competition on the same day at 2.30 pm on the final phase of 'Goa's Struggle For Freedom'.

Then, on June 19, 2022, from 9.30 am onwards, there will be a drawing competition for school students on the topic 'Goa's Struggle For Freedom: Various Personalities and Event's' and 'Goa's Heritage'.

History buffs can also be part of the symposium titled 'Goan Nationalism' on June 22, 2022 at 2.30 pm, at Sanskruti Bhavan, Panjim.

Head, Department of History PES Ravi Naik College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Prof. Varsha Kamat, former assistant professor, Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy – Goa University, Dr. Nishtha Desai, and assistant professor, D D Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies – Goa University, Dr. Seema Risbud will be participating guest lecturers for for the event.
