As the world turned its focus toward the planet on World Environment Day, Marriott India made a bold, green statement.

Across its network of 150 hotels, the hospitality giant fulfilled its ambitious pledge to plant 1,00,000 trees — a milestone in its growing commitment to sustainability and ecological stewardship.

This year’s initiative marked a major leap from 2024’s 'Two Trees per Room' campaign, which had seen 32,600 trees planted by 4,900 volunteers. In 2025, that number more than tripled, with 15,000 volunteers across the country mobilising to put down deeper roots for a greener tomorrow.

At the local level, Le Meridien Goa, Calangute, led the way in celebrating the day with purpose. In collaboration with environmental organisation, Goa with Earth, the resort planted 585 saplings, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, not just in policy, but in action.

General Manager, Babita Kanwar, who actively participated alongside her team of department heads and associates, said, “This is the least we could do for the environment. It’s a small step, but one that reflects our deep responsibility to protect and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us.”

The saplings were planted in carefully chosen sites designed to restore ecosystems, improve biodiversity, and support local communities — reflecting Marriott's broader strategy of thoughtful environmental intervention.

“Planting 1,00,000 trees is more than just a number — it’s a symbol of the future we want to help build,” said Chairman of the Marriott India Business Council, Sanjay Gupta. “Sustainability is not a trend for us — it’s a core pillar of how we define responsible hospitality.”

Marriott India continues to lead by example with a range of planet-positive practices — from energy-efficient operations and waste reduction to responsible sourcing and community engagement.

With each initiative, the hospitality brand reaffirms that luxury and sustainability can — and must — go hand in hand.
