Former Goa captain and left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati has accepted the role of the bowling coach for the Uttar Pradesh Under-25 team.
Jakati is Goa's leading wicket-taker in the Ranji trophy and retired from first-class cricket in December 2019.
The UP team will start their Men's U-25 State A Trophy campaign on November 20. The team then will participate in the CK Nayudu Trophy, which is scheduled to begin on 6 January 2022.
Shadab Jakati talked about his new opportunity with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, where he said," I have gained experience in the last two years as a coach after retirement. Now the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has shown confidence. I am grateful to them for that."
Jakati had won the IPL cricket tournament while playing for Chennai Super Kings. He was the leading spin bowler of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team from 2008 to 2014, then played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions in 2016-2017, taking 47 wickets in 59 IPL matches.
He played first-class cricket for Goa, where he took 271 wickets in 90 matches in the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament. Jakati has also scored 2734 runs in first-class cricket with one century and 14 fifties. In List A matches, he has taken 93 wickets and scored 1104 runs. Whereas in domestic T20s, Jakati has bagged 73 wickets in 91 games.
