PANAJI: Only 25 Goans have pledged for organ donation till date, informed Goa Medical College and Hospital Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Bandekar said, "Only 25 persons have pledged for organ donation so far. GMC has performed 20 kidney transplants. In India, the organ donation rate is just 0.8 persons per million as against Spain which has an organ donation rate of 46.9 persons per million."

Dr Bandekar also informed that the first-ever GMC Marathon 'GOMECOTHON 2020' has been organized on Sunday with nearly 950 participants including doctors, students, and staff of GMC. The theme for the marathon is organ donation.
