PANAJI: Tiswadi returning officer Vivek H, IAS, on Friday accepted the nomination papers of Sidhesh Naik of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contesting Corlim ZP constituency after dismissing the objections raised by one Surendra Tari Volvoikar.

Tari Volvoikar also told the returning officer that the candidate had suppressed his actual annual income. He argued that Sidhesh is the son of Minister for AYUSH Shripad Naik and that his annual turnover was more than Rs one crore. While dismissing the objection, returning officer Vivek H, IAS said that OBC certificate to Sidhesh Naik was issued by the competent authority and that the same was not challenged before the competent authority and that it cannot be challenged before the returning officer for ZP elections.

The returning officer said that Naik had complied with all the requirements while filing nomination papers as specified by the State Election Commission and the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 and Rules 1996.

He further submitted that the fact of the father of the candidate is a Minister does not deprive Sidhesh of contesting election nor is a ground for rejection of nomination papers.

Currently, seven candidates have filed their nomination papers for Corlim ZP seat, which is reserved for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities even as Saturday is the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.
