PANAJI: Around 50 Goans amongst 119 Indians were evacuated by a special Air India flight from Japan coast, where they were quarantined in a cruise ship.

The flight carrying Indians and five nationals from Sri Lanka, Nepal, South Africa and Peru arrived at Delhi on Thrusday morning.All the Indians will be shifted to a facility near Delhi to quarantine them for 14 days. They will be released after 14 days if they test negative to corona virus.

Most of them were crew on the ill-fated cruise boat which travelled from Hong Kong to Japan. Formr MP and Commissioner for NRI Affairs adv Narendra Sawaikar tweeted, "Goans on cruise liner #DiamondPrincess returned to Delhi. Will be quarantined for 14 days in Delhi. Good to know from the family members informed that they are safe and healthy."

He also mentioned that the Goan/India crew on Diamond princess vessel posted the in-flight photographs after boarding homeward-bound Air India plane to India.

Adv Sawaikar has thanked Minister for External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar, Indian Ambassador of India to Japan and Indian Embassy at Japan for their support and cooperation for their return to India and Goa.
