PANAJI: The State Government is aiming at scaling up the testing facilities for COVID-19 to approximately 2,000 tests in a day, informed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. In a post on social media, Rane said, "We are in the process of increasing the TrueNat testing facilities in Hospicio, Asilo and SDH Ponda. Our aim is to increase the number of machines and recruit additional microbiologists, MD microbiologists and MSc microbiologists at these hospitals to ramp up the testing." "Besides this, there will more technicians on board so we can test approximately 1,500-2,000 people in a day," he said. In another post, Rane stated: "With the induction of the latest Abbott M2000 RT PCR Machine at GMC, we are increasing testing facilities at the Virology lab. I thank the Hon’ble CM for sanctioning the machine, it will help us improve our testing facilities. We are also recruiting more MSc and MD microbiologists so we can further scale up the testing at GMC." "The microbiology lab shall further strengthen our fight against COVID-19," said Rane.
