PANAJI: Banking services were partially affected in Goa as nationalised banks remained closed on Friday, on the first day of two-day nationwide strike called to press for wage revision. Services of public sector banks were impacted as employee unions joined the nationwide strike on Friday. Cash deposit, withdrawal, cheque clearances and loan disbursement were affected. With this strike, banks would be closed for three days including Sunday. Banks will open only on Monday, February 3. According to Goa Bank Employees Association general secretary A M Pereira, wage revision settlement for bank employees and officers was due from November 2017. The wages are revised once in five years based on the demands submitted by the Unions and arising out of discussions with the Indian Banks’ Association on behalf of all the member Banks. Accordingly, the last settlement was finalised to cover the term from November 2012 to October 2017. Hence wage revision was due from November 2017, he said. The Goa Bank Employees Association is affiliated to the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), which is one of the nine bank Unions that had gone on strike.
