Bicholim mamlatdar inspects Chowgule mines in Shirgao

As per directions issued by deputy collector and SDM Bicholim, Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit on Tuesday conducted the inspection of the site located at Chowgule Mines at Mayem in Shirgao alongwith Mines Geologist attached to Directorate of Mines and Geology Goa.

Bicholim: As per directions issued by deputy collector and SDM Bicholim, Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit on Tuesday conducted the inspection of the site located at Chowgule Mines at Mayem in Shirgao alongwith Mines Geologist attached to Directorate of Mines and Geology Goa. The inspection was conducted in view of the complaints filed by locals that Vedanta mining company has undertaken excavation work.
Sarpanch of Shirgao Village Panchayat and other complainants, official of Vedanta Ltd and Chowgule Company were present at the site during the inspection. During the inspection, it was observed that no illegal mining or extraction was undertaken by the Vedanta Company and they were only transporting the existing iron ore purchased during the e-auction conducted by Directorate of Mines and Geology Goa.
Around 50,000 tonnes of iron ore was purchased by Vedanta during the e-auction conducted by the Directorate of Mines and Geology Goa. Further, the mamlatdar of Bicholim taluka directed the officials of Vedanta Company to seek permission from the competent authority to undertake the cutting of trees if there is any proposal of the company in the said area. the villagers also demanded wheel wash.
