BJP activists burn effigy of MLA Rohan Khaunte

BICHOLIM: BJP activists from Bicholim, Mayem and Sakhali constituencies on Thursday burnt the effigy of Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte in protest against his act of assaulting senior BJP leader from Bicholim taluka, Premanand Mhambrey and using filthy language against him on Wednesday.
A protest meeting was organised near the KTC bus stand, Bicholim on Thursday. Present on the occasion were Mayem ZP member Shankar Chodankar, Mayem BJP block president Dayanand Karbotkar, Bicholim BJP block president Vishwas Chodankar, Anil Naik, Krishna Parab, Rajan Kadkade, Sachin Salkar and others.
Recalling the Wednesday’s incident about the assault on BJP spokesperson Premanand Mhambrey, ZP member Shankar Chodankar marked the protest on behalf of BJP activists and said incidents of assault won’t be tolerated in future. He added that the act of Khaunte is serious and criminal in nature and he should have sort out the issue orally instead of physically assaulting a senior citizen.
Bicholim block president Vishwas Chodankar said, “we feel bad and strange that minister level people like Khaunte comes on manhandling a senior citizen over a simple political issue”. He said BJP activists will not sit quite in case such incidents are repeated in future.
On this occasion all the BJP activists present marked public protest against Khaunte and burnt his effigy by shouting slogans against him.
