PANAJI: The Opposition Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday slammed the BJP general secretary adv Narendra Sawaikar for demanding revocation of Article 30 of Constitution.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) media cell convenor Trajano D'Mello said that Sawaikar had exposed his autocratic DNA by condemning Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao for expressing his views and appealing that better sense prevail on CAA, NPR and NRC and that peace may be maintained from the all burning situation that the country is facing.

Trajano said that Sawaikar had further exposed his ignorance of the secular fabric of Constitution framed by our founding fathers, by questioning as to why the Archbishop does not criticise Article 30 of the Constitution.

Article 30 is embedded in the Constitution as a safeguard for the minorities to run their institutions in a highly disciplined and dignified manner. Sawaikar should also know that the Supreme Court has upheld the Constitutional validity of Article 30 that was challenged, said Trajano.

The GPCC media cell convenor further said that Sawaikar should not forget that great leaders of our country were educated in these institutions. The majority of students who opted to be educated by these institutions were from the majority community.

Trajano said that the BJP had now and again proved that they were out to crush not only the minorities but also the under privileged like the SC/ST who belong to the majority community as the recent judgement of the Supreme Court in special leave petition (SLP) number 25508 of 2019 wherein the BJP Uttarkhand government counsel argued and presented to the court that reservations for SC/ST was not a fundamental right. Thereby making it clear that they were never wanting to see the upliftment of the underprivileged that too from the majority Community.

"If Sawaikar was not in a position to hear sane and sincere appeals he should put earplugs," Trajano said.

Meanwhile responding to controversial remark against Goa and Daman Archbishop by former MP Narendra Sawaikar, AAP State convenor Elvis Gomes said that the Archbishop as a citizen had every right to give his views and termed the reported linking of his stand against CAA to Article 30 of the Constitution as deplorable.
