PANAJI: The opposition Congress Party has strongly condemned the government for fixing up written tests for LDC posts under the Directorate of Women and Child Development, on Republic Day for almost 8000 candidates beginning from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) media cell convenor Trajano D'Mello said that the government had displayed once again its disrespect to this historic day where the sacred document of the "Constitution" was instituted by the Union of India. The government's attitude exposes the scant respect and lack of reverence to this memorable day. The public holiday (January 26) that exists for the last 70 years for every citizen to meditate on the values of the Constitution founded by our great forefathers was reduced to dust, charged Trajano. He said that by conducting exams on this day, exposes the government's contempt for the Constitution by also bringing in laws in Parliament and destroying the secular fabric of the Constitution. If prospective candidates are made to answer exams on Republic Day, even before being employed, what reverence will they have for the Constitution? asked Trajano. Denounces the attitude of the State government, Trajano said that if this act was done by the principal opposition Congress Party, the BJP would be shouting from the roof tops terming it as an anti-national act.
