The Goa Congress on Tuesday demanded the immediate removal of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kunal, ahead of the Goa Assembly election next year.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, asking for a replacement of CEO Goa on completion of over six years in office.

“The officer besides being the CEO is also holding a charge over some other Government Departments as Secretary. It is regrettable that despite expressing serious reservations over the conduct of Shri Kunal in the past, ECI has failed to take any action to replace him from the position of CEO,” GPCC president Chodankar said in the letter.

Chodankar urged the panel to remove Kunal as in charge of Goa and had questioned his neutrality. Chodankar wrote, “He has exhibited complete bias in favour of the Party in Power and has a prejudiced approach towards Congress. The party has lost confidence in his ability to work in a neutral manner in the conduct of forthcoming general elections to the Goa Assembly”

Chodankar reminded the ECI that Kunal has been “holding the statutory positions since last six years which is against the laid down norms.”

It should be recalled that in the past, GPCC has written to ECI demanding the removal of the Goa CEO.
