Congress high command summons Goa Congress leaders to Delhi

After dousing the fire in the Congress Punjab unit, for now, Congress high command has turned its eye on the Goa Congress unit where tensions have been simmering for a while just a few months ahead of assembly elections in February-March.

AICC leader Rahul Gandhi has summoned Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) leaders and party five remaining MLAs along with Congress South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha for a meeting in Delhi on Thursday.

According to reports, Rahul Gandhi and AICC interim president Sonia Gandhi will meet Goa Congress leaders to discuss the party’s state president issue and give an ultimatum to party leaders to get their act together for the assembly election. Just like Punjab, Goa Congress has been suffering from factionalism and there has been growing demand to remove the GPCC president Girish Chodankar. Sardinha and other party leaders have openly asked for the removal of Chodankar from the post.

The meeting comes just a day after AICC secretary Goa in charge of Dinesh Gundu Roa visited the state and submitted his report regarding the party’s preparation for the 2022 assembly elections.
