MARGAO: It seems Margao Municipal Council is in a tight situation with regard to deposit the compensation amount of Rs one crore with the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). And hence, an emergency meeting has been called on March 2. As per the order, the civic body has to pay the amount within 15 days of time.
Speaking to reporters, chairperson Pooja Naik said that the issue of depositing the compensation amount was discussed at a meeting of the council headed by then chairperson Babita Prabhudesai. "We want the administration and the municipal advocate to explain the issue to the council", she added.
It may be recalled that the council meeting at the time of Dr Babita had given the nod to the administration to take whatever action fit in the interest of the council. Present chairperson Pooja has also tried to figure out from advocate for municipal whether the civic body has filed an appeal or revision in the matter before any authority given that the GSPCB had first issued direction to pay the amount in August lat. Presently it seems that civic body is in a tight situation and the meeting called is expected to witness the chaos. A group of opposition councilors is planning to target the administration over the issue.
