PANAJI : The member of National Commission for Safai Karmacharis, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India, Manju Diler stressed the need to stop manual sewerage work and this has to be replaced with mechanised.
He was speaking after holding a meeting with North Goa Collector, Directors of Social Welfare, Municipality Administration, Commissioner of CCP, Deputy Labour Commissioner and the officers of other related offices at Patto on Thursday.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss and review the welfare measures, facilities, compensation, schemes implemented thereof for the welfare of sewerage workers in the State.
North Goa Collector R Menka, Director Municipality Administration Tariq Thomas, Director of Social Welfare Umeshchandra Joshi, SDPO Uttam Raut Desai, JE SIDC Tanmay, SC and OBC Commission manager Ram Parwar, Valpoi Municipal Council municipal engineer Nadeem Shaikh, Sankhali Municipal Council municipal engineer Reshma Satardekar, Mapusa Municipal Council municipal engineer Venkatesh Sawant and head clerk, Directorate of Panchayat attended the meeting.
Diler asked for the data pertaining to the promotion of sewerage workers working in urban local bodies like municipalities and others places and measures taken to improve and enhance their standard of living.
Umeshchandra Joshi, Director of Social Welfare brought to the notice of the concerned that Goa is welfare state and is implementing various schemes for the betterment of sewerage workers. The awareness camps are aimed to educate the workers about the schemes implemented in the interest of the workers.
Diler suggested to organise more camps regularly to create awareness about the schemes and measures for the workers with proper registration to inform to their office.
