PANAJI: Even though Konkani journalism is a history, it is sad that both the general public and our own journalists fail to give due importance to this great richness of ours. On February 2, 1889, the great thinker, Eduardo Jose Bruno de Souza started the first Konknni weekly ‘Udentichem Sallok’ in Roman script and thus created the history of Konknni journalism. We have made many of our own Konknni events insignificant, one of which is the Konknni journalism. At a time when Konknni was an orphan, starting the weekly was a huge step for the development of our language. However, with no support from our own people, the weekly had to be closed within a few years. To give due importance for this historical event, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) commemorate this day as Journalism Day on February 2, every year. This year, DKA is organising a special function on February 2 at 4 pm at the Tiatr Academy of Goa Conference Hall, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji. Rajendra Dessai, Editor of Konknni weekly ‘Amcho Avaz’ will be the chief guest. DKA president Tomazinho Cardozo, secretary Vincy Quadros and treasurer Celso Fernandes will share the dais with the chief guest. This event is open to all. DKA appeal to all the Konknni writers and lovers to attend the function in large numbers and make it a success.
