Doubling of tracks will take 3 years, says official

Panaji: Due to existing teething issues in some of the locations, the completion of track doubling work between Vasco-Da-Gama Station to Londa will take around three years, a top Railway official said here on Wednesday.

“We are doing the doubling of the tracks from Vasco to Londa. There are a lot of issues there due to forest area which is delaying the work. We can’t give any fixed timeline right now, but we expect to complete the work in three years,” General Manager, South Western Railway A K Gupta told GT.

He was speaking on the sidelines of CII Goa - 3rd Conference on Logistics which held in the city.

On the issue safety aspects of pedestrians while crossing railway tracks, Gupta said that attempt is being made to close down all ground level crossings and provide subways.

“Wherever the pedestrian traffic is more, we are providing with foot overbridges for people to cross over from one end to another safely,” he said.

Informing about several development projects being undertaken by Railway the official said, “We are taking up improvements at Vasco railway station. New passenger reservation building is coming up. We have made some improvements in platform number one. We have repaired the concrete apron to give a better look and ensure cleanliness as well.”

Some more improvements are being made in the circulating area, the place just outside the main railway station.

“We are removing some old structures in area outside the station to improve the appearance of the station. We also made modifications area outside Sanvordem railway station and new facilities have been provided like waiting hall and parking area,” he said.
