More than seven months after he quit Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former Goa AAP convener Elvis Gomes on Sunday joined the Congress in the presence of the state unit chief Girish Chodankar, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Digambar Kamat.
Gomes was also AAP’s Chief Minister candidate for the 2017 legislative assembly polls in which the party could not win one seat. Last year, Gomes resigned from the post of AAP’s state convenor and had given the membership of the party. He alleged that the party was being controlled by a ‘high command culture’ from Delhi and the party had compromised on its core principles.
Gomes, a former bureaucrat and, said Congress was the only party that understood Goans.
Chodankar said more leaders from AAP and other outfits would join the Congress in the days to come.
Goa Assembly polls are scheduled in the state in early 2022.
