MARGAO: Former students of Model English High School on Tuesday donated Rs one lakh to a student of the same school who was diagnosed with thalassemia (major) last year. This is the second instalment paid by this batch for the ailing student. Ex-Headmaster of Model English High School Damodar Kavlekar congratulated all the ex-students who have come forward to give a new life to an ailing student. He was speaking during handing over of the second instalment of Rs one lakh to the chairman of Shradhanand Dnyan Prasarak Mandal, Arun Bhat from the MEHS’84 Batch welfare fund.

The amount was handed over in the presence of a teacher of Shradhanand High School Carol Fernandes, students of MEHS’84 Batch Nassim Shaikh Shirodkar, Mandakini Virdikar Karapurkar, Nisha Munj Rane, Vivek Prabhudessai and Vishal Pai Cacode. The fund was created with contributions by the 1984 batch students after an appeal made by former headmaster Damodar Kavlekar during the reunion function of MEHS’84 Batch.

A needy boy was diagnosed with thalassemia (major) and had to undergo a bone marrow transplant surgery at Dinanath Mangeshkar hospital, Pune in the last week of December 2019. The total cost of the surgery and other expenses were around Rs 15 lakh. The ex-students of MHES had earlier given Rs one lakh to the needy boy in the month of September 2019 when he was undergoing pre-operative tests and treatment. He is presently responding well to the treatment and will be shifted out of the ICU in the next 3-4 days. The Ex-students of Model High School have appealed to the public to come forward and help the needy boy with financial support which will help him to recover and live a happy life.
