MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday alleged that in order to give benefit to some, there are attempts being made from the government to bring an amendment to the Cooperative Society Act (CSA). "The government is trying to finish the cooperative sector in Goa,” he alleged. Speaking to reporters at Margao, Reginaldo said that he will never allow destroying the cooperative sector and will oppose the amendment. Accoring to him, the government is planning to introduce some amendment to CSA in the forthcoming assembly session. He also said, "The recent press conference taken by MLA Churchill Alemao in which he made a statement that, MLA Reginaldo had not raised the issue about the fraud that had occurred in Visionary Cooperative Society is totally baseless and untrue. I had raised the said issue on the floor of the house of the assembly in the discussion on demands of grants in 2011 and 2012.” Reginaldo said that he wants to remind Churchill that he had raised this issue of illegalities both inside and outside assembly not only of Visionary Credit Cooperative Society but also on impropriety occurring in various other Cooperative Credit Societies like Goa State Cooperative Bank, Panaji Urban Cooperative Credit Society Ltd, etc. "I feel sorry for Churchill that without checking the facts he has cast aforesaid wild aspersion on my work which I have been doing selflessly through numerous issues connected with Goa and Niz Goemkars,” he added.

"The first offence came to light and accordingly on his behest, his own voter named Leonie Silva was arrested and then Churchill was PWD Minister but he was too busy with PWD affairs."I am to remind my senior colleague that recently upon the knowledge of the latest said fraudulent incident of Visionary Credit Cooperative Society of Gracy, I immediately held a meeting with Nuvem MLA Wilfred D'Sa and Miniter Govind Gaude and the case now has been handed to over economic offences cell and Gracy's passport has been impounded at our instance and not that he is aware of,” he added.
