MARGAO: Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) awarded to the winners of the 10th Children's Tiatr competition wherein the first prize was awarded to the tiatr 'Kanvllean Kelem Kanv Kanv', written and directed by Marcos Gonsalves at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Monday .

All the awards were presented by the editor of 'Gulab' Fausto V Da Costa. The second prize was awarded to 'Xikunk Di Tankam', written and directed by Fr Milagres Dias and third prize to ‘Xim', directed by Sharon Mazarello and written by Wilson Mazarello.

Addressing the gathering, Fausto said that children are the future of tiatr and hence they should carry forward the rich culture of Konkani tiatr. He said, "There are lots of responsibilities on the TAG besides, tiatr writers, directors, and tiatr lovers to flourish the tiatr on a large scale. Especially with regard to promoting children and youth in the field of tiatr fraternity,” he added.

He congratulated TAG for organising Children's Tiatr competition and also the participant groups. "Everyone cannot win the race but what more important is that we must participate in the race. Participating in the race is more important than winning the prize. A participant should win the heart of the people rather than the prize,” he stated.

According to him, in recent times lots of new talents have emerged in the field of tiatr. "It feels great pleasure that we have talent in tiatr. In the past, we could see a few new talents in the tiatr, but now the situation has changed. The language used in tiatr, in recent times is also improved a lot. Besides, we can witness lots of changes with regard to lights effects and stage setting,” he further added.

"We can see lots of children and young people in the field of tiatr, but it is sad to say that the same thing is not seen in the field of Konkani language or Konkani literature. Tiatrist can play an important role with regard to Konkani language, as to preserve the tiatr, language also needs to be preserved and promoted. It is the duty of every tiatr artist to preserve the Konkani language,” he urged.
