MARGAO: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Liandrina Gomes alias Lia Gomes became the first-ever candidate from the party to file nomination from Raia constituency at the forthcoming zilla panchayat elections in the state.
Briefing media persons in the presence of Gomes and Brenda Silva who has joined the party recently, party convenor Elvis Gomes said that keeping in line with the party ideology of promoting women candidates, he was pleased to approve candidature of Lia from Raia constituency although the same is an unreserved seat.
“It’s a memorable day today that Lia Gomes who hails from the ST community has been chosen by the party to represent Raia constituency which is unreserved overruling claims from other probable candidates. She becomes the first candidate ever among both genders to file nomination on party symbol, as this is the first time the party has contested ZP polls. We hope to field more women soon as part of our women empowerment initiative”, said Elvis.
Lia expressed happiness and thanked the party for the honor bestowed on her as a woman and exhorted people to support her candidature. Meanwhile, Brenda Silva also from the ST community said that looking into what is happening at the political level in Goa, it was time to go for ‘Kejriwal style politics’ to do something good for the society. She called upon women and youth to also join AAP for a better future.
