Panaji: Former Revenue Minister and Independent MLA Rohan  Khaunte on Saturday said that instead of showing weak leadership, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should resign.

Addressing media persons, Khaunte said, “I have always been saying that CM is weak and he is proving it from time to time. He calls Mhadei his mother and if he cannot protect his mother, there are serious problems with him. Instead of leading a delegation to Union Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Prakash Javadekar, he should have led a delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has now got up after two months and he is talking about writing a letter to the PM.”

Congratulating the new governor for taking up Mhadei matter with the PM, Khaunte said, “Not being a goemkar also, he has had feelings of a Goan. He met the PM and also expedited the letter for which the postman was our CM who came with the letter to Goa. That too keeping it in abeyance. We were continuously asking for the withdrawal of this particular letter. I would like to tell BJP to stop playing board games. As on today, BJP is ruling the State as well as the Centre.”

“Goa is not being taken seriously at all. Governor himself has said that Goa is being cheated. Now where is the question of appraising PM when the governor has already done it. I think the CM is part of that particular project to give water to Karnataka or he is not able to handle it which I say is a very weak leadership,” Khaunte said.

He also pointed that Goa’s water treatment plants and farming are dependent on Mhadei water and most of North Goa would be affected if Mhadei gets diverted.

“On January 7, one day session of the State Legislative Assembly has been convened to pass a bill. We have been demanding one day session to discuss the Mhadei issue. They do not want to speak about Mhadei but are interested in passing Centre’s bills because you (CM) have become a puppet in the hands of the Centre to do what they want. The CM is becoming a puppet because he is not voicing his opinion,” he said.

“Instead of showing his weak leadership, CM should gracefully resign. Otherwise, we are with him. Let him get everybody together, join us in the protest in fighting truthfully for Mhadei. There should be no politics on this issue,” he said.
