More than 15 candidates file nominations for ZP elections
Benaulim NCP MLA Churchill Alemao and former MLA Jose Philip D'Sousa along with ZP candidates and supporters at South Goa District Collector's office at the time of filing nominations on Wednesday.
MARGAO: Nominations for the Zilla Panchayat elections in Salcete taluka started pouring, whereby on Wednesday more than 15 candidates from different parties filed their nominations with their supporters.
Benaulim MLA representing NCP Churchill Alemao and former MLA Jose Philip D'Souza was also present in support of their candidates. Nearly six candidates from Congress party filed their nominations on Wednesday in the presence of large numbers of supporters. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar was also seen with the Congress candidates.
Royola Fernandes from Congress and Menino Fernandes of NCP have filed their nominations from Benaulim constituency. Seating ZP member from Colva Nelly Rodrigues was also seen supporting NCP candidates.
Besides Benaulim NCP candidate Vania Barreto(Colva), Sarita Fernandes (Curtorim) have also filed their nomination papers while Congress candidate Suzie Fernandes has filed her nomination form in Colva constituency. Besides, Julio Fernandes (Velim), Romana Rodrigues (Nuvem) and Joseph Vaz (Raia) have filed their nominations on Congress tickets.
On the other hand, Hanzil Fernandes has also submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer in Benaulim constituency on Aam Aadmi Party. Rodolfina Vaz has also filed her nomination papers from Guirdolim constituency as an AAP candidate.
Speaking to reporters, Joseph Vaz said that he wants to fight for more powers to the Zilla Panchayats. "If elected I will give a hard time to the government with regard to giving more powers to ZP," he added. While Suzie Fernandes, Congress candidate from Colva said that she wants to work for the development of Colva constituency.
MLA Churchill Alemao appealed to the voters to support NCP candidates in the Zilla Panchayat elections.
