Over 11,000 persons fined for non-wearing of face masks

Goa Police has decided to continue with its drive against persons failing to wear face masks in public places.

PANAJI: Goa Police has fined over 11,000 persons for not wearing face masks in public places and over 6,800 persons for spitting in public places. Speaking to GT, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jaspal Singh said, “altogether, 11,477 persons have been fined for not wearing face masks in public places and 6,844 persons have been fined for spitting in public places.” Goa Police has decided to continue with its drive against persons failing to wear face masks in public places. The State government has made covering of face in public places compulsory with immediate effect as a preventive measures against spread of COVID-19 and a fine of Rs 100 is also being imposed if any person is found without covering the face in public places. In case of non-payment, the person shall be liable for action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860. The face cover shall include face masks available with the chemists or even home-made washable masks. The order issued by the State government said that for the purpose of 'face cover' shall include mask available with the chemists or even home-made washable masks which can be used after proper washing and disinfecting them.
