PANAJI: After a gap of almost one-and-a-half months, Panaji Municipal Market was opened partially on Thursday. However, the vegetable and fruit vendors will continue to sell their produce along the Inox lane.

Speaking to GT, CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar said, "We have opened the market from today. Only shops with shutters have been allowed to open. There are over 200 such shops within the entire complex. Vegetable and fruit vendors will continue selling their produce along the Inox lane until further guidelines come."

Only the main entry gate of the municipal market has been kept open for entry of people. While entering the market, people were provided sanitiser.

"To start with, we have allowed 50 people to enter and based on the number of people coming out, we are permitting the entry of remaining people. We have don't markings at the entry point of the market so that social distancing is maintained," he said adding that the market will be closed at 6 pm.

Prior to opening of the market, CCP had sanitised the entire complex as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
