MARGAO: The five accused arrested on the charge of assaulting four policemen at Cuncolim were remanded in two days police custody by the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Margao on Thursday. The police produced Saiesh Dessai, 24; Sandeep Dessai, 23; Sapnesh Dessai, 28; Santosh Naik, 28 and Shubham Borkar, 24, all residents of Cuncolim before the JMFC for remand. Two other accused Mayur Desai and Shaikh Abdul Razak were earlier remanded in three days police custody on Wednesday. The accused allegedly assaulted four policemen on Robert duty early Tuesday morning at Madicotto-Cuncolim. The accused also damaged two police vehicles. Meanwhile, all seven accused have filed bail applications before the JMFC, Margao and it will be heard on Saturday, January 18, according to PSI Aditya Naik Gaonkar, who is conducting investigations. On Thursday, the police took all the accused to the spot where the incident had occurred and also recorded their statements. The police are yet to recover the weapon used by the accused during the offence. The police further said that four accused had criminal background and were involved in similar cases in the past. The police have now removed their past criminal records from its criminal registry and would strongly oppose their bail applications.
