MARGAO: The release of raw sewage into fields behind the bus stand of Kadamba Transport Corporation at Margao has created health-hazards and what shocking is that this is happening under the watchful eyes of the Public Works Department (PWD) for the last many days. On Tuesday, sewage department has claimed that the repair work of the damaged chamber has been carried out but, as alleged by citizens, the sewage flow was continued on Tuesday evening. Speaking to GT, United Goans Foundation president Ashish Kamat said, "The government itself is responsible for polluting the environment and this work has been going on for days without any intervention from the Margao municipality or the Goa State Pollution Control Board", he stated. He also said that it is a shame that we live in a society that witnesses such violations but prefers to look the other way without demanding accountability from the government. The video with regard to the release of raw sewage has also gone viral on social media, he said.

Register FIR by ACB against former CM directed Lokayukta "The alarming rise of cancer and other diseases can be attributed to acts like this. We demand strict action against all departments concerned", Ashish urged. When contacted Savio Dias, a resident of Madel-Margao, he said that this all happening because of the negligence of sewage department. "This is not new to citizens of Margao and it is happening just because of the negligence of the sewage department. Department gives the reasoning that the sewage pipeline is chocked and then they release sewage into the fields, resulting in the health hazards", he added. According to him the concerned department should find out the temporary solution until the sewage pipeline is repaired or a new pipeline is laid down. "What shocking is that if when a common man releases any sewage into the gutters or open space the concerned department takes action against him. But why no action against the sewage department for creating major health-hazards?", Savio questioned. Reacting to the issue, Abhay Gaude, assistance engineer of sewage department of Margao said that it was true that sewage was overflowing in the fields due to the chocked chamber. "We have now repaired the chamber", he claimed.
