PANAJI: Rajashree Creations, Ponda in collaboration with the Raj Housing and the Directorate of Art and Culture will organise `Swabhimaan 2020', an award ceremony to salute the hardwork, dedication and efforts of Goa Police. The award function will be held at the Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, Campal-Panaji on Saturday, February 1 at 6:30 pm. On the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest and Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant `Babu' Kavlekar will be the guest of honour. Chief Secretary (IAS) Parimal Rai and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jaspal Singh will be the special invitees. Speaking to media persons at Panaji on Thursday, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said that the main aim of the function is to create awareness about policing and provide them the social support. Policemen and their families, who contribute in a big way for the society always remain behind the scene, unrecognised. The award function is to recognise all the policemen from Goa Police department, he added. Gaude also informed that a retired police officer will be honoured with the "Lifetime Achievement Award." As many as 23 different policemen right from the rank of constable to the Inspector General of Police will be felicitated at the occasion. The Minister was surprised to see that more than 40 per cent of the award winners were women, showing their increasing influence in the police force. Raj Housing Group proprietor Sandeep Nigalye said that Goa Police has always been working round the clock to ensure law and order and safety and security of the citizens. They work on the field 24x7 to ensure that we can sleep peacefully at home. But hardly we recognise the efforts that is taken by man in uniform. Rajashree Creations promoter Paresh Naik said that there was always a distance between common man and police. Naik also added that the programme is open for all and along with the award function, special entertainment programmes will be organised. Famed comedian Raju Shrivastava and "Chala Hawa Yeu Dya" fame Bhau Kadam, Bharat Ganeshpure, Kushal Badrike, Shreya Bugde and singer duo Jasraj Joshi and Anandi Joshi will perform on the occasion.
