PANAJI: The Goa government has postponed the ensuing Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections by a week and the same will now be held on March 22. Earlier, the State Election Commission (SEC) had announced that the ZP elections will be held on March 15.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday informed that the government has decided to postpone the ZP elections by a week due to festive season such as Holi and Shigmo festivities which will celebrated across the State during the first fortnight of March.
Since people will be busy in festivities like Holi and Shigmo the government decided to postpone ZP polls to March 22, Sawant said adding that the government had already conveyed it to the SEC.
TO a question, the Chief Minister said that the delimitation and reservation of ZP constituencies would be finalised by the SEC. "Everything will be done by State Election Commission," he sad.
