In the face of religious persecution, the Brahmadev sculpture was spirited away from Carambolim in Tiswadi taluka and concealed within the enigmatic forests of the Western Ghats.

A LOT IN A NAME

Originally named Chandivade after the abundant Macaranga Peltata (Chandivado) trees, the village later became known as Brahmakarmali, a name derived from Carambolim.

SACRED COMMAND

According to folklore, when the idol became too heavy to carry, the weary devotees rested on a hillock. Here, one of them dreamt of Brahmadev, who instructed them to worship him at that very spot.

BIODIVERSE

Brahmakarmali is surrounded by the lush forests of the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, where one can see the fascinating facets of Myristica swamp vegetation.

ETERNALLY ROOTED

A magnificent Kalam tree, a symbol of nature's grace, now thrives on the hallowed ground where the Brahmadev sculpture was originally installed.

Despite lacking concrete dams, Brahmakarmali is blessed with numerous springs that provide year-round water supply for irrigation and drinking.

AROMATIC WONDER

In the vicinity of the Brahmadev temple stands the Agaru tree (Aquilaria Agallocha), a fragrant tree commonly known as Agarwood, which is an attraction for tree lovers.

CREATIVE & EVOCATIVE

The Brahmadev sculpture is one of the finest specimens of Goa Kadamba art. It features a beard on the central face and shows Brahmadev holding chanting beads in his right hand in a blessing posture.

OLD MEETS NEW

Although the temple has been renovated, certain elements of the old structure are retained, showcasing its uniqueness.
