The traders also confirmed that the prices will remain low for at least two months and the farmers will suffer. In the retail market, good quality onions are being sold for Rs 10 per kg while at some places, the price has fallen below Rs 10. The prices of onion were between Rs 450 and Rs 600 per quintal in the wholesale market located at Gultekdi in Pune on Monday. Wholesale trader Vilas Bhujbal told Sakal Times that the situation is getting worse and prices are likely to drop further for few months. Bhujbal said that from last few days, 100 to 125 trucks per day are arriving in the market which is 40 per cent more than the usual. Satish Pawar, a farmer from Nashik district, said that the production cost of the onion is going to be approximately Rs 800 per quintal, but farmers are getting the rate of Rs 450 to Rs 500 per quintal which is spelling doom for them.
