Maharashtra, January 11:   The Maharashtra state election commission will today release the notification of 10 Maharashtra Municipal Corporations, Zilla Parishads Elections that are set to be held in the upcoming month. The current term of the 10 municipal corporations in Thane, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Nashik, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Amravati, Akola and Nagpur is set to end on March 8th. The elections also include the all-important Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporations. The BMC has 227 seats in all.

The chief contenders for the BMC elections include the BJP, Shiv Sena alliance, the MNS that has declared an intent to go solo in all the 227 BMC seats, the Congress and the NCP. Key alliances are yet to be declared. The BJP Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar, had announced that the party would only form an alliance with Shiv Sena if the latter left at least 100 seats for BJP.

The BJP has already gained momentum in Maharashtra ant a singular level. In the recently concluded four phase Nagar Panchayat elections, the BJP managed to secure a massive victory. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena   leader Raj Thackeray today made several shocking announcements with respect to the party’s plans in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections. Thackeray revealed that the party will be contesting in all the 227 seats in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.

The leader who addressed a live press briefing via social media site ‘Facebook’ clarified that the party will be contesting the seats alone. however, leaving the option of an alliance open, Thackeray added, “We have so far not received any proposal for an alliance. If any proposal does come, the party will consider it.”
