Renowned Indian actor Anupam Kher joyfully stated that this year has been significant in terms of cinematic triumphs. This is because the stereotypical notion that only mainstream cinema is popular has changed. Now the audience has begun accepting regional cinema far more, leading to several regional movies from South India becoming massive hits, said Kher.

During the press conference at IFFI, actor Anupam Kher interacted with the local and national media, sharing his experience in the film industry and responding to pertinent questions.

Kher said that this year, after the pandemic, has been an important year for the film industry as people have begun accepting and watching movies in regional languages. The stereotypical notion that only mainstream movies become commercially successful and are accepted by the general audience has changed.

Various movies from South India, which were originally made in regional languages, such as Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, Vikram, Kantara, etc have become blockbusters, he added.

Meanwhile, when he was asked whether he would like to work in a movie based on the Goa Inquisition and the atrocities committed against Goans by the Portuguese invaders, Kher replied, “If I get a courageous director like Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri who wants to make such a film, then definitely, I would make this film.”

He further said that his movie The Kashmir Files received an overwhelming response from the people. “Although some sections of people criticise us, we must understand that in India there are more people who talk and criticise than those who take action. There are even people who criticise the gods, so we just need to focus on our work," Kher opined.

When asked why The Kashmir Files is a special film to him, Kher said that he had personally suffered this exodus and could relate to the sufferings that the Kashmiri Pandits had gone through.

“I have not acted in this film, but I have put my soul into this film. The Kashmir Files was an emotional venture to me," he poignantly said.
