ABOUT THE ART

The exhibits have a diverse portrayal of individualistic expressions in various mediums, inspired by street art, collage, abstract and semi-abstract compositions, portraiture, sculpture, mythology, photography and tribal art forms.

They play with contrasts, warm and cold, light and dark. As layers of memory and nostalgia meet perpetual observation of communication, viewers are inducted into a personal vocabulary, a private mythos that deepens the experience of each individual piece, as motifs become inflected with their own clandestine meanings.

The profile of a man in black and white on handmade paper by Kalidas; detailing on the façade of Kuraiya Temple by Vikas; Dr Sweta and Mohit’s colourful abstract depiction; Shubhara’s detailing of garments on a semi-abstract portraiture of Radha Krishna; paper cut by Sumit; Banaras Ghat by Purvi and Mohit; fold of the garment of a dancer in shades of blue and white by Nandini are eye catching. Yet, some lack the emotional power originally intended; nevertheless it’s a celebration of spontaneous expressions.

The exhibition was scheduled to preview on the International Day of Yoga, June 21, 2023. President of Kala Sopan, Dr Shweta Pandey, says, “Yoga activates our seven chakras. The exhibition was planned on National Yog day, since ‘art is an essence of life’.

The exhibition is on view till June 23, 2023 at Ujwal Art Gallery, Vagator, North Goa
