Get a glimpse of India's folk art, craft and dances at the 22nd Adarsh Yuva Sangh's 'Lokostav' festival which will be held from December 7, 2022 to December 11, 2022 at Adarsh Gram, Amone, Poinguinim.
The festival will showcase not just Goa's folk crafts, artisans, dance and music, but also that of different states across India such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Manipur, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, etc.
Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Ramesh Tawadkar, said that, "Through the medium of Lokostav, we intend to pass on the knowledge of craft and art to the next generation."
"This year, we had invited the newly-elected President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to be part of the event. However, at the same time, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will be in Goa for the inauguration of Mopa airport, which would lead to the movement of too many VVIPs in the state. Hence, Droupadi Murmu will not be attending the event," he said.
HIGHLIGHTS OF LOKOTSAV 2022
At the five-day festival, there will be a display and sale of traditional plants and medicines.
Visitors will get taste of traditional food items, while handicrafts made locally by skilled craftsmen will be on display.
There will be an exhibition showcasing the lifestyle of tribal people. Forgotten sports, that are part of Indian folklore, will be played at the Lokostav that is being held at Poinguinim.
A total of 8 stages will be there throughout the five days and different competitions and cultural performances will take place.
As the festival is being held in Canacona, South Goa, there will be cultural performances which will be held on December 10, 2022 at 8 pm at Loliem and Agonda Panchayat, too.
DAY 1
The inaugural on Day 1 of Lokostav will start at 11 am. It will be followed by patriotic group singing at 1.30 pm and other state performances from 3.30 pm.
Apart from that, there will be competitions such as mime, storytelling, monologue, fancy dress, poster and drawing, and a fugdi presentation starting at 10 am on Day 1.
At 12 noon, there will be a solo dance competition for high school students; and a Ghumat Aarti competition at 1.30 pm. Goan folk dances along with dances performances from other states will take place during the event.
DAY 2
On day 2 of the festival, Science Project exhibition will be held at 10 am alongside competitions like rangoli, monologue, elocution etc. There will cultural performances of Goa and other states on the second day of the festival.
DAY 3
The third day of Lokostav will have poem recitation and face painting. Screening of short films will starting at 10 am, there will be a street play competition at 4 pm.
