Goa is all set to witness a one-of-a- kind ‘Walk Festival Goa’, happening from April 1, 2022 to April 14, 2022. The festival aims to familiarize the people of Goa about their heritage, through a series of walking tours, which will bring the real essence of Goa to the fore. It will touch upon areas like food, heritage, history, culture, etc.
The event is being organised by the Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP), in association with GCCI and the Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG) and others.
The walks will be hosted by experts from the field and tour companies which conduct heritage walks and other offbeat experiences in Goa.
Soul Travelling, which hosts tours and walks across Goa and have specialized in offbeat tourism, will conduct two walks – ‘Secret Food and Tavern Trail, Panjim’ and ‘The Other Side of Old Goa’. The ‘Secret Food and Tavern Trail Panjim’ to be held on April 1, 2022, will unearth culinary secrets of Goa and provide a sampling of some of the best snacks, savouries and dishes from Goa.
On April 8, 2022, between 3pm-5pm, another trail ‘The Other Side of Old Goa’ will provide insights into lesser known stories of Goa.
Make It Happen
An experiential travel company – Make It Happen, known to design and curate unique experiences in Goa, Diu and Coonoor, will take visitors around Campal, Panjim, when they host the Campal heritage walk on April 2, 2022 (5 pm- 7 pm). The walk will bring to light interesting insights about street patterns, residential houses, city planning, and a lot more.
On April 9, from 8 am to 11 am, the ‘Panjim Art Saunter’ will unravel the facets of art hidden in the capital city. People can grab their sketchbooks and view the city through an artist’s lens while getting an insight into Goa’s local life and heritage.
Their ‘Old Goa Heritage Walk’ on April 7, 2022 will take you around the UNSECO World Heritage sites and help you to discover the oldest churches of Goa and their architectural brilliance.
Started during the pandemic, the Community Classroom is an initiative which aims to bring a sense of community among people, and encourage every individual in society to take responsibility and help promote a spirit of cooperation. They will hosts several walks: ‘City Signage: Reading the Clues’ on April 3, 2022 (5 pm to 7 pm); ‘Springs of Panjim’ on April 4, 2022 (8 am to 10 am); ‘St Inez Creek Walk’ on April 13, 2022 (7 am to 9 am) and ‘Salt Pans Walks’ from April 14, 2022 (8 am to 10 am). These walks will educate the people about springs and the water bodies that need attention.
Goa Bird Conservation Network (GBCN)
Join the walk and discover the birds of Goa, which are common to the land, while some of the them have migrated from different parts of the state, at the ‘Miramar Bird Walk’ which will be held on April 10, 2022 from 7 am to 9 am.
Margao has a lot of interesting history and stories, hidden in every corner. The ‘Margao Heritage Walk’ aims to bring these stories and historical events to the fore and showcase the beauty of the place. The walk will be held on April 10, 2022 from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
Monuments and structures often have a tale to narrate. They are constructed to celebrate personalities, to remember an event or contribution of some great people. Exclamations Goa will take people around and shed light on the statutes that adorn the city of Panjim through the ‘Statues and Personalities of Panaji’ on April 11, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm.
Urban Sketchers Goa
Get ready to sketch the bylanes of colourful Fontainhas and appreciate the features of Indo-Portuguese architecture. Discover the colourful hues of houses, bulging balconies, wooden doors and more, that becomes the perfect backdrop. The walk will be held on April 5, 2022 from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Tree Walk Group, Goa and Plants Walks Goa
Two walks during the festival will highlight plant and tree species of Goa. The walk by Tree Walk Group, Goa, will educate the people about the importance of various trees at Jogger’s Park, Altinho, on April 12, 2022 from 7 am to 8.30 am.
Plants Walks Goa’s ‘Medicinal Plant Walk’ will highlight the nature and medicinal properties of plants at Miramar, which will happen on April 6, 2022 from 5 pm to 7pm.
