Drawing is a skill comparable to comprehending the meaning of words that can be improved with training and practice.

Architect Mark Warner believes, "in the end, it is not the photographic accuracy of your drawing that matters. It is its character that does."

After the resounding success of his workshop 'Art of the Subconscious', Warner is back with another one ‘The Art of Seeing’ on May 18 (Saturday) at The Blue Brick Wall Cafe & Beer Bar from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.

This time he will guide the participants through exercises that will help to momentarily suppress the left brain and allow the right brain to take over.

The left brain, which has to do with learning, thinks serially and processes thoughts to numbers, letters and words. The right side of the brain, on the other hand, is non-verbal and intuitive, and thinks in patterns and pictures. It is also called the 'master observer'.

This workshop is meant equally for those who haven't tried their hand at drawing, and also those who have and are looking to scale up their drawing skills.

Along with being an architect by profession and an artist by passion, Warner has also been a teacher for over 30 years. He calls Parra his home in Goa and has been living there for the last two-and-a-half years.

Speaking to Gomantak Times Digital, Warner adds, "the workshop is based on the works of an American art teacher known as Betty Edwards who has written books like Drawing on the Right Side of The Brain and Drawing on The Artist Within."

He explains, we humans are left-brained and right-brained people. One thing that prevents people from drawing is they are mostly left-brained, which is more analytical. The idea of the workshop is to do exercises to subdue the left brain and allow the right brain to take over."

THE TEACHER: Parra-based Mark Warner will conduct the workshop.
