CELEBRATING NOTED POET SHANKAR RAMANI
The birth centenary year of noted Goan poet, Shankar Ramani, will be celebrated from June 24 to June 26.
The programme will include a Sahitya Akademi seminar, musical programmes featuring Ramani’s poems, the release of three books (of Ramani’s poems and letters) in Marathi and Konkani, and a national-level Shankar Ramani Poetry Appreciation Competition.
There will also be an exhibition showcasing the life and work of the poet, in addition to the screening of a documentary film.
Goa University, the Directorate of Art & Culture, the Goa Marathi Akademy, the Goa Konkani Akademi, Institute Menezes Braganza and Sahitya Akademi, along with the literary community and the Ramani family, will jointly celebrate the event.
Shankar Ramani had contributed immensely to Marathi and Konkani poetry from 1950-2003. He published seven books of Marathi poetry and four books of Konkani poetry, and was the recipient of several awards, including the Sahitya Academi award in 1997. June 26, 2022 marks his birth centenary.
