
Astronomy lovers in Mapusa are in for a special treat this winter as a special four-session certificate course on basic astronomy, which is open to people of all age groups including senior citizens, will be launched on December 5 at 7 pm.
ASTRONOMY COURSE
The Association of Friends of Astronomy (Goa) is conducting the course in collaboration with Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Business Studies (Saraswat College) Khorlim, Mapusa.
The course has been specially curated by Goa's best astronomy communicators and aims to inculcate the basics of astronomy theory, software telescope handling and sky observation in just four sessions.
The course will be held in the Sridora College itself. It will also include a session in training the participants to conduct astronomy outreach to the community which is of paramount importance.
On Saturday, December 7, Panjim astronomy lovers have an opportunity to join the popular and annual AstroClub'25 which is open to students, youth, seniors and the general public.

The club has curated a year-long feast of astronomy for the members like workshops, excursions, talks, film screenings, all-night observation sessions in the Western Ghats, astrophotography classes and much more.
This year the club will have a special slot for very young kids as well as youth to inculcate the hobby of stargazing among them in their comfort zones.
PLANETARY SCIENCE COURSE
January will see AFA (Goa) conducting a four-session Planetary Science Course at its Vasco centre, which is open to all.

JUPITER'S PERIHELION EVENT
Between December 6 and 7, Jupiter will reach the perihelion point in the sky during which the Sun, the Earth and planet Jupiter will be in a perfectly straight line or in opposition phenomenon.
At this point, Jupiter will be closest to Earth and theoretically should appear double in size to its farthest or aphelion point.
AFA (Goa) will mark this unique event by inaugurating its AstroClub'25 at the Public Astronomical Observatory at Junta House, Panjim.
