The New Art Lab presents City X Garden Dialogues an exhibition, or rather a meta-landscape, bringing together the city and the garden, a meeting that births new paths to tread upon.

Our understanding of the symbolism of gardens in history has been that they represent abundance, nourishment, fertility, harmony, growth, play, desire, paradise and beauty.

We perceive this understanding in the modern context when we witness cities striving to convert from capitalist carbon spheres into gardens.

Struggling within a Kafkaesque world, the garden is our hope as we revive and seek solace in memories, dreams, flora, fauna and images of nature’s varied representations.

The fact that gardens are constructed reveals a sense of life within urban settings.

The fact that gardens are constructed reveals a sense of life within urban settings. This observation leads us to conclude the undeniable coexistence of humans and nature.

City X Garden Dialogues will take place at Jambul House, featuring 14 artists who explore diverse mediums—drawings, paintings, printmaking, paper sculptures, artist books, self-published zines and happenings.

Jambul House is a café located near a garden, built in memory of naturalist and herbalist Garcia da Orta in 1855, and the statue of Abbé Faria, an 18th-century friar who uncovered human nature.

The café provides an ideal premise for these works that reflect the convergence of city and garden. In this aesthetic playground, artists respond to their relationships with the garden as a realm.

The dialogues of City X Garden serve as a voice to empathise and critically view the human condition.

As one enters the enigmatic metaphysical world created by these artists, the works in this exhibition are a journey led by chance and play. The solitude of the city fades, giving way to a blossoming garden. The dialogues of City X Garden serve as a voice to empathise and critically view the human condition.

Spectators are encouraged to engage imaginatively and become part of this garden.
