Proud Ponjekkar, a multi-media event from December 15 to 22, is all set to take centre stage in the capital city within the precincts of the new Smart City Headquarters, previously the old Public Works Department on the picturesque banks of the River Mandovi.
"The main idea behind the event is to bring some pride back into the city that faced many upheavals during the Smart City works, causing a lot of hardships to Ponjekars," said Aftab Khan Farooqui, curator of Proud Ponjekkar.
"Many things went haywire, but that's all over now and it's time to bring people together through the medium of entertainment and celebrate Panjim," Farooqui added.
THE SERENDIPITY CONNECTION
The Serendipity Arts Festival and the Smart City Mission have joined hands together to host Proud Ponjekkar, not only for Panjimites, but for all people, including visitors. "The idea is to add a little bit of value and also some pride as Ponjekars by hosting the event during a major arts festival," said Farooqui.
ENGAGING PROGRAMMES
During the eight days of the Proud Ponjekkar event, a diverse array of programmes, including theatre, film, dance, podcasts and audio installations, are lined up. "On December 15, the Smart City Headquarters will host a 45-minute theatrical performance called Seduction, which is directed by Dnyanesh Moghe, and I, myself, am acting in that," he informed.
The other cast are Amanda Rodrigues and Salil Naik. This theatrical performance will be staged on December 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22.
FREE ADMISSION
Besides enjoying the serene atmosphere of the location, people will have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural experiences free of cost. They will be able to witness exhibitions, listen to music, see live performances and engage in thought-provoking discussions.
PANJIM'S JOURNEY SO FAR
Proud Ponjekkar will celebrate the city's transformation over the years to what it is now and the challenges it had to undertake to get to this stage.
"In an event called Panjim Balcao, a podcast audio will talk about the different challenges Smart City has met. This will be complemented by a collage of images where Smart City will highlight their projects like CCTV cameras and EV buses," Farooqui said.
SILENT DISCO
One of the most unique events that people will get to take part in is the silent disco on December 19. "The silent disco is basically a headphone party. We think smart means not making any noise and creating a nice little noise pollution-free environment," Farooqui described.
"This is the only programme that will, even if we want, not be free. We will charge for the headphone party because I just want to control the crowd.
I don't want anybody and everybody coming into the silent disco. People will have to register for the around 300 headphones that will be available. They will only go out essentially to people who like to dance," he informed.
EXPERIENCE TRUE WELLNESS
From December 15 to 22, the venue will host wellness sessions starting at 8 am daily, inviting those seeking to rejuvenate. Known as Smart Soul Wellness, this platform will allow participants to know themselves closely, get into fitness mode and start the day with mindful practices that promote well-being.
The eight days of Proud Ponjekkar will foster a sense of community by bringing together local artists, performers and thinkers. And for those seeking to know a little about Panjim by connecting with the locals, this is the ideal opportunity.
