Hours after Congress Working President and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco's resignation, the Goa Congress called him a 'traitor; and a 'confused and unstable politician' on Saturday, December 20.
"If u go to see Reginald's politics he was very confused, we never had any arguments or anything and to keep the unity we had decided to give me the ticket but then he was always unstable, first rumoured that he was suppose to join AAP but now even if he joins any party he will still be unstable and doubtfull," Chodankar said
On being asked whether he informed the party before resigning from assebly, Chodankar said: "No, there was not a single call. In fact, we were trying to call him since yesterday night. For such kind of traitors, people will jugde and punish it. One good thing is that this happened before elections," he said,
Chodankar said that local congress leaders will take a call on fielding new candidates from Curtorim.
AICC Goa Desk in charge Dinesh Gundu Rao said people of Curtorim will teach him a lesson. "People who do things selfishly and betray trust will face the consequences. After taking whatever he could and misleading us till the last minute, if he could lie and cheat us , I'm sure the voters of #Curtorim will teach him a befitting lesson. @INCGoa is undeterred and unfazed," he tweeted.
Digambar Kamat has faced many hurdles and he is committed to lead Congress to victory in upcoming assebly elections. "Congress Party has successfully faced many storms, floods & tsunamis. Our functionaries have strength & mettle to defeat opportunists. Congress Party is here to form Government in 2022. I am committed to lead the @INCGoa to a thumping victory," Kamat tweeted.
Earlier in the day, Lourenco resigned from the assembly membership on Monday. He submitted his resignationa letter to LegislPrative Secretary Namrata Ulman. According to sources, he is likely to join Trinamool Congress. He has left for Kolkata where he will formally join TMC in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Just last week, Reginaldo was annnounced as Congress' Coutorim candidate for the 2022 Assembly elections.
With Reginaldo's resignation, Congress's strength in the assembly has been reduced to two MLAs including Leader of opposition and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and former chief minister and Poriem MLA Pratap Singh Rane.
