Manohar Parrikar's son, Utpal Parrikar, who contested for the first-time from Panjim seat, lost to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Atanasio Monserrate by 710 votes.

Post his defeat, Utpal Parrikar said he gave a good fight as an independent candidate, however, the results were a little disappointing.

Utpal was able to secure around 5857 votes at the Goa State Assembly Election 2022.

He had previously rebelled against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest from his father’s constituency. He chose to contest as an independent candidate for the Assembly Election 2022.

Meanwhile, Babush Monserrate said he had to fight both the "unofficial candidate of BJP as well as the official candidate of Congress".

"Disappointed as far as results are concerned. BJP cadre didn't work for me but for oppition candidate. I fought the unofficial BJP candidate as well as the Congress. It's due to the support of a few workers & supporters that we managed to retain the seat," he told reporters.
