Goa celebrates International Yoga Day, Chief Minister performs asanas

Schools and colleges across the state organized special programmes to mark the occasion

India celebrated the 8 th International Yoga Day on June 21, 2022. Yoga is an ancient form of body and mind exercise, and has been gifted by India to the world, and was observed globally by 177 countries on Yoga Day.

Goa, too, celebrated Yoga Day enthusiastically, and saw the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, and his cabinet ministers, performing asanas along with the people of Goa, as yoga sessions were held across the state to commemorate the day.

The Chief Minister performed yoga asanas at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Dona Paula. Students and yoga enthusiasts were also present on the occasion.'I urge everyone to practice yoga for the enrichment of atman,' said the Chief Minister.

Union Minister of State for Tourism, Shripad Naik, participated in a Yoga Day function at Old Goa.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Jal Shakti Prahlad Patel participated in the Yoga Day function at Fort Aguada, Sinquerim. Goa’s Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, was also present on the occasion.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane; Minister for Transport, Industries, Panchayati Raj Mauvin Godinho; and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai also joined in the yoga programmes on International Yoga Day. School and colleges organized special yoga programmes, while citizens across the state performed asanas on the occasion.

Earlier, in the morning, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, led the celebration of International Yoga Day from Mysuru, Karnataka.
